I can try the suggestion on the above on the live server but perhaps you know the problem with my scenario anyway; We have WSS 3.0 running on Windows 2003 Server UPDATE - Can you configure the web.config to display the detailed error? After a bit of review it was discovered that he was using host headers for his web application but did not properly configure SharePoint’s alternate access mappings. The least that Microsoft can do is add a better error handling.
